Books are quite a specific commodity. They may seem easy to package because of their simple shape. However, many people collect them and want them to arrive in impeccable condition. Even the smallest scratch or bent corner will be a problem and cause upset to the customer. The preparation of the parcel is all about resilience and functionality, as well as being suitable for the requirements of the courier company or other carrier.
1. Book packaging methods.
It can be assumed that the easiest way is to pack a thin hardcover book. Just wrap it in bubble wrap, place it in a matching cardboard box or envelope and you’re done.
A more complicated procedure begins when softcover books are dispatched and when orders consisting of a larger number of volumes are processed.
The first thing to do when preparing a book is to wrap it. A visually interesting effect can be achieved by using elegant tissue paper for wrapping or wrapping paper. In contact with the customer, it is the first impression that counts most and this is the moment that will significantly influence the evaluation of the order fulfilment. Packaging must be done carefully, regardless of what the person has ordered and in what quantity.
At this point, the first step that affects the comprehensive safety of the shipment comes into play – the book can be additionally wrapped in bubble wrap and secured with adhesive tape. This way, it will not open on the way and its pages will remain straight, without any bad-looking folds or deformations. The wrapped book can be covered with cardboard dividers. This will give it extra rigidity and strengthen the whole.
The next step is to choose the appropriate outer packaging. When you decide on a carton, it is recommended that it has dimensions to match the size of the book. There are dedicated cardboard wrappers on the market. You can calmly use them to send one or two books.
Instead of a wrapper, the popular bubble envelope can be used. The interior of the bubble envelope acts as a further protection against both damage and moisture. The envelope must be selected specifically for the shipment in question, as it must not leave too much slack, nor must it enclose the edges of the book too tightly.
2. Bulk packaging with books.
It is slightly more complicated to secure a parcel in which you want to send a larger number of books. The best solution turns out to be cartons. The multitude of sizes available makes it possible to adapt them to the contents.
In such a bulk shipment, care should be taken to pack each copy carefully. The individual books should be wrapped in bubble wrap and then stacked on top of each other.
The remaining empty spaces need to be filled with special filler so that there is no possibility of the books moving around during transport.
The closed carton is best sealed with tape and wrapped in stretch film.
3. Summary.
One or two books can be shipped in a bubble envelope or a dedicated cardboard wrap.
Larger quantities are best sent in a sturdy cardboard box, using fillers and protected with stretch film.
